AutoCAD 2005 Tool Palette Trick – Insert Block using LTSCALE

From Misha (Misha Belilovskiy) of Autodesk who posted this trick in a reply to a discussion thread in the public Autodesk discussion group for AutoCAD 2005.

You can’t do it using AutoCAD UI but it is possible if you are not afraid editing your Tool Palette source ATC file. Here is how you do it.

If you would like to replace Auxiliary scale in tool properties (for instance with LTSCALE) you can do the following:

  • 1. In AutoCAD Tool Palette right click on the block you want to change, choose Properties and assign DIMSCALE Auxiliary scale.
  • 2. Close AutoCAD and use Windows Explorer to navigate to the source Tool Palettes ATC files.
  • 3. Open ATC file with the name of your palette in Notepad or your favorite ASCII editor.
  • 4. Find DIMSCALE assigned to your block and replace it with LTSCALE.
  • 5. Save the file, open AutoCAD and check your Auxiliary scale value. It should now be LTSCALE. You are done.

    Cheers,

“. . .You can also disable them if you don’t want them but give them a chance, AutoCAD system variable “ROLLOVERTIPS set to 0.”
Thanks for that. Reminds me of the Active Annoyance (er, excuse me, Active Assistance)of Acad 2000. Gave it a chance. Gave it up.

    Shaun,
In 2009, turning off the default value for DIMSE1 for radial dimensions, and setting Fit to “both text and arrows” and text placement to “over dimension line with leader” allows the placement of a radial dimension on a small arc without an extension line, but the filled arrowhead is also suppressed. A user-defined arrow-head is not. Also, even with “place text manually” checked, the dimension position is fixed while placing it, and displays a variable landing, which is replaced with a short one once the position is selected. After placement, the dimension can be moved. Similar problem in 2008 after SP1 allowed the arc extension line to be suppressed.
