Autodesk Discussion Groups are Back Up and with a New Look!

I mentioned last week (here) the planned outage of the public discussion groups for updates. Well the discussion groups are once again live and thriving with activity. I am sure many thousands of lurkers to the groups were going through withdrawals during the weekend.

This is the most widely used Autodesk product resource I personally know of.

The groups are available for both web and NNTP for newsreaders. There will also be some RSS feeds coming.

Summary of changes:
Newsreader (nntp) access has not changed.
Web-based (http) experience has been improved to include:

– Watches: ability to monitor threads and receive e-mail updates
– Spell checking for posts
– Ability to search individual groups
– Preservation of formatting in posts
– Attachments in all forums
– Improved login/registration (existing logins will continue to work)
– Elimination of frames (allows direct linking to topics)

Here is a small screen capture of the new and improved web interface.

If you are using a newsreader to access you will need to reset the groups to get access.
In Outlook Express:
– Right-click on the discussion group
– Select Properties
– Then select the Local File tab
– Then select Reset
