My New HP Tablet PC TC1100 & AutoCAD 2005

I now have a new Tablet PC the HP Compaq Tablet PC TC1100 . This is a real nice unit. I took it home last night and had to beg to get it back from my 2 year old daughter. I am using AutoCAD 2005 on this unit and intend to use this as my primary road machine when out of the office for customer visits and presentations. I am even taking it deep into the Amazon with a special HP case and a GSM cellular data card so I can be online anytime even in the Amazon Jungle. With many of the new features in AutoCAD 2005 and even AutoCAD 2004 with the Tool Palette extension it makes AutoCAD far more easy to use on the Tablet PC. AutoCAD 2004 and AutoCAD 2005 is already Tablet PC Logo compliant. My daughter was even running AutoCAD 2005 (see image below) on this unit and she loved playing with the grips and stretching objects as well as the revision cloud.

I will write more on the subject of the Tablet PC and AutoCAD together as well as the upcoming Brazil trip.

Great to see your little daughter Shaan! In a computerized world, we often forget the “human factor”…

Thank you. Unfortunatly I sometimes have a hard time getting home to be with my family as often as I would like. Long hours, geeky distractions, and business travel make it difficult. My job and passion for technology makes it also difficult to stop thinking of work or CAD and engineering even when home. I need to work on this better.
Cheeers,

Hi Shaan i would just like to know which one of the two versions of the hp pc tablet t1100 do you personally recommend for working with autocad 2005.
There are 2 models right now, one has the 800 celeron processor the other one is a 1.1 ghz pentium.
Thanks for your help and excuse the inconvenience.
Hi from Africa.
JM.

JM,
I would get the most powerful Tablet you can purchase. The problem with Tablet PCs has been their limited graphics cards and they do this to keep the device small and the heat low. They are perfect for field mark up and editing but not a replacement as a primary CAD syustem, yet.

Great. Thanks a lot for your answer Shaan.
We only need the autocad 2005 for surface design, nothing of 3D stuff or anything like that. Just quick floor plan design. Our idea is that we may not need the powerful version.
I insist on the idea we only need it for quick on-the-spot floor plan design. Maybe this point will make you change your advice?
Thanks a lot again, (and nice picture of your daughter, se has a wonderful smile!!).
