Jennifer,
You can find many materials when you install the materials in AutoCAD during installation of AutoCAD select custtom and select materials. You can add them later by using Add/Remove then select AutoCAD and add Materials. You can also find materials online, create your own materials, or import objects from 3ds max Please check out AUGI.com for free training and resources membership is free. Also there is a great rendering tutorial at the Daily AutoCAD blog http://www.dailyautocad.com/autocad/creating-render-material-in-autocad-2/ and http://www.caddigest.com/subjects/autocad/tutorials/rendering.htm.
Hope this helps,
Shaan
