I have read and heard from a few concerned that their bread and butter 2D work or features were removed or placed out of reach in the future AutoCAD 2007, well 2D is still there and some new features. There are non 3D new features such as DWF underlay, addition of layer express tools into the product, UNICODE support, fields and tables enhancements, CUI enhancements, removing AEC objects, DWG recovery enhancements, and more.
So in addition to all the cool 3D enhancements 2D is still there just not the main focus for the AutoCAD 2007. Also if you are drafting in 2D then check out the new AutoCAD LT 2007 which has some pretty cool new additions I will mention soon in a blog post.
On an unrelated topic: On Friday night I went and seen the new IMAX movie Deep Sea 3D in a new digital IMAX theater in Sandy Utah. Unreal…. 45 minutes of pure sensory bliss. The Mantis Shrimp is one tough character. Reminds me to back when I used to have reef tanks with live corals and the awesome colors and magic mind relaxation the undersea world provides.
