The following system variable will allow you to create a single file or multiple for example Publish multiple sheets to a single PDF or individual by sheet.
There is a system variable: PUBLISHCOLLATE
When set to 1 it sends 1 single job
When set to 0 it sends individual files
I have this set to 1 but it still sends multiple pdfs.
A last ditch effort here.
You wouldn’t happen to know if there is a variable that will only use the name of the layout tab for the naming of the PDF and/or DWF. Right now Autocad feeds both the file name and the layout name which negates the use of the publish command.

There is no option to change the plotted file name to only a partial default name. Two options to specify a complete name or accept the default but nothing selective. This is one of those rare cases where there is not a special system variable to change an option.
One of the reasons is the name must be unique and allowing a smaller subset or openly customizable default value could introduce a same name situation.
