It is a great time for a barbeque here at almost 100 degrees Fahrenheit and Fathers Day weekend. For the record I prefer charcoal to gas barbeques after many years of testing and even teaching people how to BBQ around the world.
This article is excellent and shows the same hand method for determining the doneness of the steak that I have for years.
Cooked to perfection
Check doneness by pressing a steak in the center, says Steven Raichlen, author of The Barbecue! Bible. Then use your thumb, fingers, and the varying firmness of the base of your thumb as your guide.

Something you did not know about me: I once spoke for over a half hour with none other than the crazy heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne.
Well back to the weekend for me and also trying to get some travel arrangements complete for a trip next weekend to Switzerland for business.

With regard to Ozzy Ozborne, in 1984 I asked a question by sending in a note to the record company address on the back of a Todd Rundgren album. Todd’s mother, Ruth Rundgren, answered the fan mail in those days. She noticed I had used a computer to create my letter. She wanted to know more about computers, so she wrote me back. We have been “pen pals” ever since. As a result, I have spoken to Todd on a few occassions. Todd even worked with the Macintosh version of HOOPS when I was part of Ithaca software.
Who actually did the talking?
Nick,
My conversation with Ozzy was a two way discussion. Ozzy could actually be understood back then even with a heavy accent. There was also his guitarist chiming in on the fun phone call on topics from the health benefits of fresh fruit juices to the taste of rodents.
I also actually did some time on the weekend late nights as a disc jockey.
Cheers,
Shaan
