I still use my Release 3 version but cannot load on my new machines as require 64 bit version. Is there a simple solution to this ?
You cannot run it unless you use a virtual machines such as Vmware with a less than 10Mb disk partition and a an old DOS. It can only be ran for geeky fun as it is impractical and the best solution would be upgrading to a current release compatible with the latest OS and 64bit.
You should be able to run it in a 64 bit system by using DOSBox
It is not trivial to run it on any emulator due to the graphics and hardware environment requirements of the old AutoCAD.
