In 3 hours I will be headed about 6 hours South to the Utah Arizona border for 3 days of hiking, climbing, and cold weather camping.
I plan to hike the WirePass to Buckskin Gulch slot canyon, The Rimrocks sandstone hoodoo formations, The Wave, Coral Pink Sand Dunes, and North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Should be a fun and adrenalin filled adventure trek with many photos to be taken and posted to my Flickr Photostream when I return.
As usual in addition to using my Garmin Mapsource for my Garmin portable GPS plans I use Scott’s excellent Topofusion for hike planning. I also carry a PhotoTrackr Pro GPS photo tagging unit. I am basically a walking photo lab and GPS unit.

I hope you enjoyed your hike. We must have passed each other at some point down there. I ended up hiking many places in Utah and Arizona and then thanks to a ranger found a little use trail into the Wave from the South notch. It was more like rock climbing or bouldering and we hiked out the normal North wirepass trail route then down the road for 3 miles to my truck. Was a very long hike but well worth it even with the cold rain. We camped in tents at the State line campground just about 1 mile South of the wirepass trailed head. You could hear the coyotes at night and see the California Condors soaring during the day.
I am pretty sore currently and even typing hurts not to mention the 6 hour drive home after hiking 10 miles that day zapped my strength today.

Extreme Hiking? I guess I’m a bit confused here. To me you’re going on a nice easy hike. If I want to read about extreme hiking I check out Andrew Skurka’s adventures. Anyone that does not only a 6,875 mile hike but also a 7,778 hike and makes money at it is an extreme hiker. Still, it looks like you’re going to an area that I’d like to check out sometime. Maybe on a short 3 day hike.

While I would not call the hikes I did “easy”, I would also not equate them to 5000+ mile hikes which are more like a journey than a hike. 😉
