AutoCAD on the Mac Survey

Shaan Mac and PC

With over 20,000+ responses in the last week alone to the AutoCAD & Mac OSX Survey we are thankful for all the great feedback. Although the survey was launched on April 1st I want to assure you it was no April fools joke. The AutoCAD Team is researching all aspects and expectations of AutoCAD on a Mac. Many run AutoCAD on a Mac now but not officially supported nor natively as an Apple OSX application.

(survey now closed)

AutoCAD PC & MAC For those unaware I now use both a PS as well as a Apple Mac.I am living with one foot in each world. I run AutoCAD 2010 on my Mac using 3 methods VMware Fusion, Parallels Desktop, and Apple Boot Camp. Boot Camp is the fastest but you have to boot to it instead of OSX

I do all my AutoCAD addin dev/RealDWG dev from a MacPro desktop running Parallels, it is the best working experience I’ve had. I dedicate 4 of 8 processor-cores to Parallels and both sides run great. I’m very excited about a Mac version of AutoCAD… I’m glad this research is going on.

It’s nice to know Autodesk is really thinking about a native AutoCAD for the Mac. I hope a native Revit is also being considered.

Thank you for all the great feedback. We are definitely going to take all your comments into consideration.
When there is any news, you know I will blog and Twitter it. 🙂

Hello! I also have a Macbook but I always have to use a desktop computer (Windows) just to operate AutoCAD. Which is hard for my part Having AutoCAD running in my Macbook would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Pardon for not being a techie person.

It’s great to hear that Autodesk is considering a native version for Mac users.
For years Mac users have had to make do with the current operating environment when it comes to AutoCAD. Given that more designers are now using AutoCAD to plan and design spaces it makes perfect sense to have a version that functions in the operating systems they use. It will increase productivity and reduce the downtime because of boot camp. How will it affect the current licensed software will it be a patch that will convert the existing software?
I am very excited with the prospect of the dedicated software for OSX.
Cheers

Hey Shaan,
I’m a student who wrote to you about a month before this post, asking the exact same question. I’m really stoked to see that Autodesk has taken an interest!

Good! I’m not an autocad user, but certainly would become one if a Mac version were available! Bravo – plugging this hole would certainly help.

Im an architect looking to set up my own business. Currently I use a mac at home as it is unparralled for graphics and I use a PC at work for Autocad. Having to use a program to enable software kinda goes against the whole mac ethos…..having Autocad for the Mac would be a dream. I believe most architects only use a pc because of autocad and compatibility with other consultants. A move to produce Autodesk for the mac would prevent the use of two systems…….a huge logistical nightmare! The Mac and Autocad are both niche markets, which should have married years ago!

OK so it is not native Mac but pretty close. The new version of Parallels Desktop 5 for the Mac OSX has a new crystal view mode.

I am a designer who relies on Autocad a great deal mainly for Interior design plans. Saying that I also use all the adobe suite programs to finish presentation, to me this is the most important step to fully show my project. I use a mac for all my adobe and currently have to use another computer or bootcamp to be able to use autocad. Mac OS X being my primary choice of use it would make my life soooo much easier to have all my programs on one platform. Im really looking foward to have Auto cad run on OS X.

I am going to have to switch to turboCAD. BOO BAD! Just because autoCAD isn’t programmed for mac os x. This is the 21st century isn’t it?
