I am finally back in my office after a few weeks in training and meetings…
I usually get the request to break or jog a dimension line from customers from the mechanical disciplines. They want to show a broken dimension or to shorten one of those long radius dimensions.
Let’s take the example of a heat exchanger that may be too long to show length to scale so you use the AutoCAD Express Tool Break-Line Symbol.
How would I dimension this? In AutoCAD 2008 we added the DIMJOGLINE Command.
Two quick notes:
- Ged Trias is the AutoCAD Expert of the Week on the AutoCAD Exchange this week. Volunteer AutoCAD Expert Matt Murphy was great last week and seriously bombarded by questions, but did not quit and run away.
- Check out CAD Notes AutoCAD Tip contest which is running until March 15th 2010. CAD Notes ‘Batik Giveaway’ Contest

Is it possible to create a jog for a linear dimension but have it similar to a radius jog? The dimension goes off the page and I am looking to represent the dimension somehow.
J. Tice,
Yes if I understand you correctly and your need you can use a radial jog in AutoCAD. If you want a linear length instead of a radius then that would not be readily possible without customization but you can jog a radial dimension..
Use the DIMJOGGED command.
