It never fails, I am out of communications reach in the middle of the mountains or desert hiking and an announcement goes out.
Autodesk Brings AutoCAD WS Mobile App to Android
“SAN RAFAEL, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADSK), a leader in 3D design, engineering and entertainment software, announced the availability of the AutoCAD WS mobile application on the Android platform. A free* web and mobile application, AutoCAD WS uses cloud computing technology to enable Autodesk software users to view, edit and share their designs through web browsers and mobile devices.“ and more in the announcement.
You may remember or click back to my blog post March 28th 2011 on AutoCAD WS offline editing “AutoCAD WS mobile – Offline Editing & Viewing of DWG Files” and spotted the Android device with AutoCAD WS running in my teased images. I even placed “Andy” the Android mascot in the drawing.
Yes, I actually did draw the Android character Andy in AutoCAD.
So now you know AutoCAD WS the free web and mobile app for viewing, markup, and light editing of DWG files in addition to the Apple iOS mobile platform will be available later this month for the Google Android mobile platform.
AutoCAD WS for Android will be available for download on the Android Market beginning April 20, 2011. Register and find out as soon as the download is available.
Get your Androids ready!

Cool, now how about showing us Blackberry users some love? Some how we are always left out. 🙁
I have a Blackberry as well. I use it only for email and calls and use my iPhone for everything else. My Blackberry Curve’s screen is tiny and no touchscreen.
I will pass your feedback to the team for consideration in the future. The Blackberry does rock at email with the qwerty keys.
Does WS support DWF files? If not, then why doesn’t it? That seems like a far more obvious use of mobile devices than trying to do full-on CAD in the field. If WS only works with full DWG then it would force me to bind XREFs into drawings in order to be able to actually use the software (and no, uploading a whole project to the cloud is not an option).
I’m really excited to have SOMETHING coming down the pipe as an Android user, but I do wonder why it’s been made so much more complicated than it needs to be. All we really need is Autodesk Design Review Mobile.
Daniel,
Thank you for the comment. AutoCAD WS does not currently support DWF files. I am forwarding your comment to the AutoCAD WS Team and Autodesk Design Review Product Teams, perhaps we can see DWF supported in the future on Mobile.
Best Regards,
Shaan
Realy nice application for viewing dwg files and storing them online, BUT I don’t get it why, another two applications by Autodesk use same folder on my memory card but this one created another one, It’s messing my organized storage for nearly nothing and some more options in settings will be fine too. Otherwise its good application.
