I have recently been experimenting with Google+ and the Hangout feature where up to 10 people can use their webcam and microphone to live chat. So far I have held several of these including one with Curt Moreno aka Kung Fu Drafter where I was even able to joke around with wearing a cowboy hat. Last week I asked for people to join a Hangout through Twitter and hung out with Jim LaPier an AutoCAD for Mac user in Baltimore.
The Future:
I am thinking of setting up an a series of Hangouts with people a few times a month to discuss technology, Autodesk, Autodesk products, and what’s going on out in your part of the world and building some customer councils for Autodesk Labs.
There is nothing like a real discussion seeing and hearing multiple people just as if we were sitting in a casual lounge somewhere.

That’s a good idea, I guess we need only to have you in one of our circles and know the date and time?
I will figure a date and time that works for a global attendee. As far as Google+ circles, they are not a requirement for a Hangout but I could create a circle for the attendees to prevent the Hangout from filling with non-RSVP people for the session.

I’ve got a headset mic in the office, but, my only webcam is on my laptop, and I wouldn’t bother with that.
I would gladly welcome anyone with at least audio to these live hangouts but of course the addition of video makes it much more interesting and entertaining. Imagine if you will a meeting where we all hide behind a wall to talk, or one where we see each other talking.

Google announced today that they have added public sign up for the new social media as well as have seriously added things I have been begging for.
