Makers and DIY, Autodesk Loves You

Autodesk + Instructables = maker loveAutodesk announced today it is acquiring the Maker community Instructables. Press Release and the Instructables Blog announcement Instructables is joining Autodesk

Instructables is a wealth of knowledge and community of Makers and do it yourself types sharing ideas and techniques to make your ideas a reality.

This is one more in a series of acquisitions and development of tools to support the Maker revolution where people can design and build their own personal creations without having to be a large manufacturer. In addition to Instructables there is the support and investments in the the ultimate Makers shop TechShop which is like a gym for Makers, the free and powerful product 123D, SketchBook, Pixlr, Homestyler, Project Photofly as well as the strong possibility of more to come.

Imagine having the idea for a new mousetrap and being able to design and build it yourself like a one person factory. Giving power to individuals to unleash their inner creativity is the next revolution in design and manufacturing.

Now I can continue my idea to build a sprinkler head of myself just for fun and to freak out the neighbors using Project Photofly to convert photos of my head to 3D, using 123D software, and then printing in 3D solid material ready to hook onto my garden hose and begin the neighborhood fun.

A huge welcome to the Instructables team and community!
