Throwback Thursday – Space Shuttle

AutoCAD 1.4 circa 1984/85 and the Space Shuttle drawing by Autodesk founder John Walker. This is one of the earliest known DWG sample files used to show AutoCAD-86.

I captured this on a retro 286/287 that I run in my home office for geeky fun.

Update: Here is the AutoCAD 1.x sample file, one of the earliest sample files from 1984.

I have AutoCAD 2007LT, I am trying to create a linetype that will alternate colored dashes between blue and green. Is this possible?

Hi Shaan,
Nice, John Walker is a fan of astronomy I think.
Can this file be downloaded somewhere?
Thanks

Eric,
I will post the drawing in an update to this post.
JW is definitely into astronomy.
Thank you for the comment and reading Between the Lines.

Shaan,
Thank you for the file but when i try to open it on my AutoCAD 2021 French, there is a message who said (automatic traduction) : autocad lt cannot read obsolete format drawings
And the file won’t open.
I tried to recover the file but it doesn’t work.
Do you have an idea ?
Thanks
Eric

Yes, It doesn’t work because AutoCAD is amazing in that it can read most file formats back to 1985 with 2.1x, but not prior which this original is from AutoCAD 1.x.
I will post a converted one in the near fuuture.

Eric says:

Thank you Shaan,
I didn’t know that AutoCAD can’t open files in format 1.x.
Thank you for this clarification.
Have a nice day.

Eric says:

Shaan,
For my personal culture, do you know since which version, AutoCAD can no longer open files in 1.x format?
Thanks
Eric

Francisco Gonzalez says:

Oh, wooooooow.
Do you have the Daedalus spacecraft DWG file from AutoCAD 14?

I believe since an early release, perhaps 2.x but not certain. I will try in 2.18 this week.

Jim Stutzman says:

As Shaan posteed, that is not a sample file in Rel. 14, US version. Not sure I have seen ti either.
