August 21 has always been a meaningful day for me. In 2003, it was the launch of this blog, Between the Lines. And today, in 2025, it’s also the 4th birthday of my best furry friend, Coho the Silver Labrador.
This blog started as a simple side project after Autodesk colleagues Bill Johnson and Eric Wright encouraged me to try out this new thing called “blogs.” Over the past 22 years, it’s grown into something much bigger, a place to share technology, tips, stories, travels, and a bit of life outside the screen.
Looking back, it’s amazing to see how far the AEC and manufacturing world has come. From CAD to BIM, from desktop to cloud, and now AI and automation, this blog has followed it all. But what keeps me writing isn’t just the technology. It’s the community. The connections, collaborations, feedback, and friendships formed through Between the Lines have been the most rewarding part.
And then there’s Coho. Four years of adventures, muddy paws, zoomies, river swims, and plenty of laughs. He’s been the inspector of every delivered package, the greeter of every guest, and my constant sidekick.
So today, we celebrate both milestones: 22 years of Between the Lines and 4 years of Coho. Thank you to everyone who’s read, shared, or stumbled across this blog over the years. I’m always open to feedback, ideas, collaborations, or guest contributions. Here’s to many more years of learning, sharing, and the occasional dog photo.
