If AutoCAD starts to slow down, freeze, or crash, one of the simplest fixes is to clean your %TEMP% folder.
AutoCAD and Civil 3D store temporary files there every time you open a drawing, run commands, or experience a crash. Over time, these files build up and cause performance issues, crashes, or corruption.
How to clean it up:
- Close AutoCAD and any other Autodesk or running applications.
- Press Windows + R to open the Windows Explorer.
- Type %temp% and press Enter.
- Delete all files and folders you see.
- If some won’t delete, skip them. They’re still in use.
Doing this once a week, or at least monthly, helps AutoCAD start faster, run more reliably, and prevents many common issues.
