I received my October 2011 copy of Wired Magazine and to my delight both Autodesk Labs Project Photofly and the Autodesk Gallery were in this issue. On page 68 there is a full page story on Autodesk on Reality Capture covering the free technology preview Project Photofly. Project Photofly converts photos taken with your digital camera to 3D models.
The free technology preview of Autodesk Labs Project Photofly allows you to take standard digital photos taken from your camera and convert them to a 3D textured mesh model, point cloud, or even video posted on YouTube.

I just came across a fun video showing Scott Sheppard’s 3D head created in Project Photofly used as a model for fluid analysis in the new Autodesk Labs technology preview Project Falcon for Autodesk Alias. Of course I had to upload the video to YouTube for all to enjoy.
The Australian band the Hunz are not only are a creative group of musicians, but also very creative visual artist that surprised us with their new music video. The band used used Autodesk Labs Project Photofly in their video for a cool special effect.
Last week I had the pleasure of attending the Pecos Conference 2011 in the forest at a campground near the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. There was over 350 archeologist at the event and several papers presented. I had a table to show Autodesk Labs Project Photofly which can take photos from a standard digital camera and produce a 3D model in textured mesh as well as .LAS point clouds.
A Project Photofly 2.1 update has just been released. This update is a minor release update to improve based on feedback and testing since release of 2.0 a month ago.
