Canon 40D Tattoo Offer

EOS 40D I waited and waited and waited for an upgrade to my well worn Canon Digital Rebel XT 350 Digital SLR Camera for the updated release to the 18 month old Canon EOS 30D as I wanted to step up from an entry level Digital SLR to a more pro model like the EOS 30D or better as I continue to take my photography hobby to higher levels. I asked resellers, 2 Canon contacts, and some photography people in the know and read many many blogs looking for any hints or info before spending my hard earned money. When I was told there would be no Canon EOS 40D successor to the Canon EOS 30D this year I finally made the jump this summer to the 30D. Well as luck would have it the 40D will not be available on September 22, 2007 for the same price I paid for the 30D, but the 40D has the DIGIC III processing,sRAW, Live View,  integrated dust reduction built in since I am shooting mostly in the desert, a built in thirds grid, and other features I wanted and needed.

Press Release: August 20, 2007 – Canon’s Highly Anticipated EOS 40D Digital

dpreview.com review Canon EOS 40D, previewed

That’s just my luck but it sure makes you feel like someone knew and wanted to get rid of 30D stock.

I have a been a very loyal Canon camera user for over 10 years and recommend it all the time as I love the build quality and the warm colors produced by Canon cameras. I would gladly get a Canon logo  or Phil Askey’s dpreview.com tattoo on me or wear a Canon sponsor jacket when out shooting around the world for the new Canon 40D or the 5D full frame. 🙂

Cheers,
Shaan

Shaan,
your Wave photos are simply stunning and I’m surprised you’re not upgrading to the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III. Perfect for someone of your talent.

Thank you for the very kind comment. I would love to use a Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III but the price is the problem. I see many getting the EOS 1D just to take around and post a few pictures on their blogs and that amazes me. I have for too long been giving away my images for credit only even to record companies and many others and need to stop that and figure out a way to support my photo bug habit.
My personal view is there are many with an eye for a good photo or in the right place and the right time but just don’t have the upper quality equipment and perhaps post processing skills to match some others with all the tools. Just look at how some of the photos out there could have just been better had the person used different equipment. Oh well someday I will have a full frame digital and be better able to capture what my eye sees in the image. My biggest complaint is the ranges captured by the camera are less than you see with your eye. There needs to be some updated sensors to capture more of a HDR image without having to post process. I am not one that likes the circus like over toned HDR images but just a HDR that truly matches the range of highs and lows that the eye can see.
I have not heard from Canon about the sponsorship or the tattoo offer which was tongue in cheek but I would. My photos have now been nominated for National Geographic so I am getting some recognition.

I choose the Canon EOS 40D because though it is one of the more expensive entry level digital SLR’s, you get what you pay for.
In a nutshell, the Canon EOS 40D is a hefty, well designed, well made camera with controls aimed firmly at serious photographers. Essentially this is a camera for those who already know how to take good photos and want to be able to do it quickly without fuss and gimmicks. At the other end of the spectrum a green ‘Auto’ button offers a foolproof point and shoot allowing novices get better results. A camera that is for frequent use, the Canon 40D is everything you could want in a DSLR.
