A handy new navigation feature in the soon to be shipping AutoCAD 2009 is the ability to visually see the preview of Layouts and open drawings in your session. These two features can be accessed from the icons in the status bar or the commands QVDRAWING and QVLAYOUT.
Quick View Layouts
When you select the Quick View Layouts icon you will see the Layouts with thumbnails. You can hold the Ctrl key and then use your mouse wheel to dynamically change the image tile size. There are options to pin this feature to stay on, create a new Layout, publish, or just as a navigation method between Layouts where you can see the name and a visual preview.
Quick View Drawings
When you select Quick View Drawings icon you will see open drawings and their Layout preview in a dynamic view thumbnail tile. When you move your mouse from the drawing preview to one of its Layouts the thumbnail view sizes will change and focus view from the drawing to the Layouts. You can hold the Ctrl key and then use your mouse wheel to dynamically change the image tile size. There are options to pin this feature to stay on all the time, or open or create a new drawing.

a

It’s not the ALT key to scroll the size- it’s the CTL key with the scroll button.
Ray,
You are absolutly correct. I got my ALT confused with my CTRL. I corrected it.
Thank you,
Shaan
Well, HALF corrected anyway. the CTL applies for the Quick View Drawing thingy as well…
Hi, with the Quick View Layouts/Drawings, is there any way of keeping it there permenantly? Using the pin just seems to keep it visible while you use other functions. Is there somethig in the options that can be used for this?
Many Thanks
Dan

how to open autocad 2002 drawing in autocad 2009
Ignatius,
There is no problem, just open the 2002 DWG or DXF in AutoCAD 2009. AutoCAD is able to open files from AutoCAD 2.x from 1983.
Best Regards,
Shaan
Dear Shaan,
I have a drawing done in ADT1, ADT2, and saved in ADT3.3 & ADT2004. It will not open in ACA2009, the program freezes up and I have to hit cntrl, alt, delete to shut it down.
What to do?
Thanks,
Shelley Martin
Shelley,
My guess would be if it is drawing specific then it could be a corrupted drawing file. Can you zip the file and email it to me at shaan.hurley@autodesk.com?
Sincerely,
Shaan
I am new in the businesss, trying to start a small design firm for buildings, and raod developments. I am hiring people with Autocad, and Microstation experience. What HW/Sw ahould I invest in for my firm to grow in the building design, and roads? Microstation or Autocad? And if Microstation is prefered what HW/Sw muct I purchase to get started, and if Autocad is prefered which H/W must I purchase to get started?
Thanks
TC
Cooper,
I would personally recommend if you need both AutoCAD and MicroStation files, to consider the best civil design package Autodesk has and that is Civil 3D. It reads and writes both DWG and MicroStation DGN. The Civil 3D 2010 release should be available very soon and you can get more details and system requirements at Civil 3D at http://www.autodesk.com/civil3d.
Best Regards,
Shaan Hurley
