  • For graphic cards that support Hardware Acceleration, DirectX 9.0c, or later, must be installed.
  • Installing from the ACAD.msi file does not install DirectX 9.0c, or later. Manual installation of DirectX is required, in this circumstance, for Hardware Acceleration to be configured.

  1. Is the AutoCAD 2009 the only one that works on windows vista 64- Bit or there is another version that works (for example 2005, 2006, 2008…)?? ………pls answer:))

  2. Hello. I don’t know if you cal help me. I’ve just buy a new laptop with Vista Home Premium, and I cannot install Autocad 2009. The window say: You can not install this software in this operation system… What can I do?

  3. Ana,
Please make sure you are installing the right version for your OS such as 32bit on a 32bit OS and not a 64bit.
Also make sure your OS is up to date with all service packs.
    Best Regards,
    Shaan

  4. Thank you so much, Shaan, for your prompt response. Indeed, my OS is Vista Home Premium at 64 bits, and I made the OS actualizations. And I’m trying to install the 64 bits version o Autocad. what else can I do?
    Thanks once again!
    Ana

  5. Hello Shaan. I made it! The problem was something wrong with the 64 bits Autocad. Thanks oce more!

  6. Brian,
Thank you for the question. I am not a Civil3D user so bear with me for an answer from a Autodesk Platform Technology perspective.
I would suggest for those using large data sets to consider a 64bit system with as much RAM as you can get and use that extended memory. That is the benefit of 64bit in that you get beyond the 3Gig RAM limit.
As for your graphics cards get a workstation class card not a gaming card. Think of the graphics card similar to the wheels on your race car, put some good wheels if you want the performance.
I hope this helps and thanks for reading the blog.
    Cheers,
    krishna

  7. Hi,
I’m trying to install AutoCAD 2009 onto my HP computer (Windows Vista Home Premium Edition SP1, 64 bit), but everytime I try to setup the program it says :”You can not install this software in this operatating system” I have no idea on what to do next? and I really, really need that program for my ARCH project!!
    Hope you can help.

Two things to check. One make sure the DVD is good and readable. and second and the most common problem is trying to install the wrong version such as 32-bit on the 64-bit operating system or the 64-bit on a 32-bit Operating System.
    Sincerely,
    Shaan

  9. Hello,
quick question. I am purchasing a new laptop and have the option of xp professional or vista business. I noticed that above the requirments are the same, however on the products page for autocad 2010 the requrments for vista say dual core 3.0 or higher. Does vista have higher hardware requirments for autocad 2009?

  10. Hi
It says that 128MB or greater graphic card?
well, I have intel 4 series graphic card with 64 MB dedicated only but it shares up to 1768 MB with RAM.
    is that ideal for Autocad?
    Note:”I have 4GB RAM, intel core2 due 2.0 GHz processor(64bit)”
    thank you

  11. I am trying to install AutoCad 2009 & the message come on the screen ” you must install direct 3D ”
Where I can download direct 3D plaease advise.

  12. I have installed 2009 on a HP Pavilion dv7 computer with a ATI Radeon HD3200 graphics board, Vista Home Premium 64 bit OS.
I develop autocad apps in VBA. Here are the problems:
-Slower than a government employee. My 7 yr old dell is 10x faster for the application I am building.
-Msgbox and inputbox functions cause autocad to crash. I have to go into the task manager and manually quit acad.
-When zooming in tight, loss of resolution occurs. ie lines that are crossing appear parallel.
-All these functions work fine with dell computer, autocad 2009, xp OS and Mobility Radeon 9000 graphics card.
Can you enlighten me about any compatibility issues?
    Thanks

  13. Doug,
Make sure you have installed the AutoCAD Updates as that may resolve issues you are encountering. Without running or seeing your VBA customization I would not be able to make any comments as to exact cause of the performance issues you are seeing in VBA but it could very well be the 64Bit platform and VBA.
