AutoCAD 2009 certainly runs on Windows Vista. I am wondering if there is something else going on like the wrong country version as we don’t really even offer a download of AutoCAD 2009 anymore. Where did you download it from as that might be the source of the issue.

You are very welcome. AutoCAD LT 2009 requirements are essentially the same minus the 3D section and a little smaller on the disk space needs, but there is a 64bit version of LT 2009 now.
Of course your needs and usage of LT may require less or more depending on the types of files and work you do.

I have understand that AutoCAD 2009 is not suported by Windows 2000.
But can we instal AutoCAD 2009 or LT 2009 on a computer with windows 2000 with no guarantee of good functioning or is it blocked at the start of the installation like AutoCAD 2008 on Windows 98 ?

Windows 2000 is not supported. As to what level of prevention I do not know. Far too much technology has been developed since Windows 2000. Supported platforms are Windows XP and Windows Vista 32 and 64bit only.

Would I benefit using a quad core processor with AutoCad 2009 and/or Inventor 2009?
Say, I was curious whether the DirectX 10.1 Runtime was sufficient enough or if the SDK was necessary to leverage the full capabilities of v10? When I go to install AutoCAD 2009 it insists on installing DirectX v9.0c and I’m not interested in maintaining multiple versions on my system. Attempting the install from ACAD.MSI prompts a message that reads, “Please install Direct3D before proceeding”. I assumed all the necessary files were packaged with the DirectX 10.1 runtime, that’s why I’m inquiring about the need for the corresponding SDK.

I am not aware of any plans to support Openoffice directly inside AutoCAD to the level MS Office is.

It is difficult to tell. I would suggest looking at the setup log in your system temp directory (%temp%) as it should indoicate the error point in the installation. Also check the online free knowledgebase at http://support.autodesk.com

Am I gonna be able to install AutoCad 2009 on my laptop? The requirement look good, It’s just my graphic card which i’m not sure if it is good, it is a NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS. Can some one tell me if this is good enough?

I don’t know what type of drawings you are doing, what is the CPU, what OS, or how much RAM as they all are critical.
For most small to medium use on a laptop you should be fine.

Thank you for your question. With our AutoCAD product, it is developed and supported only for the Windows Operating System.
You could run unsupported under Apple bootcamp with Windows XP installed but there are issues within the Bootcamp simulated environment and the software license.
We have had versions of AutoCAD for other Operating Systems like UNIX and Macintosh in the past, but discontinued them them due to many factors.
Autodesk still develops other products on other Operating Systems in markets where it makes sense. Perhaps in the future should the market change there may be AutoCAD for the Mac but there are currently no plans.

Hi, I’ve installed Autocad2009 on my vista x64bit and its all correct only that my main window wont show any incon, not even the mouse cross, I dont know what it is, i guessed for the graphic card and downloaded extra drivers for autocad 2009 on Vista64 (nVidia QuadroFX4500) IT STILL BLACK! I DONT SEE THE RIBBON, THE CROSS EITHER, ONLY THE LAYERS PART OF THE RIBBON!!

It sure sounds like a graphics driver or .Net to me. Try booting to safe mode which reverts to default drivers. AutoCAD 2009 uses DirectX graphics so make sure that was installed properly and try enabling or disabling hardware acceleration to test.
Also make sure you have the latest .Net installed and working try .Net 3.5 from Microsoft.com.
You can also try a repair install.

i installed autocad 2009 on my laptop (windows vista) and i liked the lay out of 2009 and it worked fine for me the first day but when i tried to use it the next day a window poped up that said AutoCad 2009 has stopped working. my brother is good with computers but could not figure out why it is not working. do you have any advice? may it have something to do with my firewall?

That is something we at Autodesk are always researching if it makes sense. We had a Mac version in the past.

Something is preventing the install. I would suggest installing the DirectX 9.0c from the AutoCAD DVD in the directories by itself or from Microsoft. There should also be an install log in your user temp directory that can provide a clue on what the error during installation was.

Hello, I have just got round to installing 2009, I also have 2008 still on my pc. The installation procees seems to go through smooth enough. Every time I start 2009 I get an error telling me it was not installed correctly. I have done this 3 times now. Also, when I try to uninstall it, I get a message saying I have not got enough disc space. I have 6GB spare.

Try installing DirectX 9 from the Windows Update page or search on “DirectX 9” The http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&DisplayLang=en. Then try the installation again.

I cannot get AutoCAD 2009 to install on my Windows Vista. It says it cannot install on that OS. Does anyone know how to fix this? Or why it wouldn’t install?

Can you provide more details on your Vista OS and build, SP level, environment, and language? Something with your systems environment is telling the installer it is not a supported OS perhaps a setting or something else. I have never heard of this reported and use Vista myself.

I think I know the problem. You are most likely trying to install the 32bit AutoCAD 2009 on a 64bit Vista OS. You should be installing the 64bit AutoCAD 2009 on Vista 64bit.

I have auto CAD Civil 3D and its working fine with vista 32 version. I want to buy a laptop with 64 bit vista. But AutoCAD civil 3D -32 bit will not install there. I can down load the AutoCAD-Architechture 2009 with 64 bit options. But I dont know what is the difference between Civil 3D and Architechture version auto CAD . Can any one suggest

There is a big difference between Civil 3D and AutoCAD for Architects as they are designed for different industries. AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009 is available in 64Bit.

We are beginning to use 3D LIDAR surveying for pipeline corridors that cross several states and end up having extremely large reference files that have choked Civil 3D 2009 several times. Currently we have mostly 32 bit systems with the current XP-Pro and 2 to 3 Gig Ram. We just got a 64 bit system with 4 gig RAM and XP-Pro(64) and that seems to have fixed the problem, at least for now, and it runs about twice as fast as the normal 32 bit systems.
My question is…
What would a current “Super” 3D CAD System configuration be that could replace our older 32 bit systems with future thought included? I need to submit a suggestion for a corporate wide upgrade and want to be sure that 64 bit, 4 Gig Ram, 512 MB Graphics Card would be a good enough. Is there anything more we should look at for hardware configurations? As for upcoming releases of ACAD products, should we aim higher? Maybe 8 Gig Ram?

Thank you for the question. I am not a Civil3D user so bear with me for an answer from a Autodesk Platform Technology perspective.
I would suggest for those using large data sets to consider a 64bit system with as much RAM as you can get and use that extended memory. That is the benefit of 64bit in that you get beyond the 3Gig RAM limit.
As for your graphics cards get a workstation class card not a gaming card. Think of the graphics card similar to the wheels on your race car, put some good wheels if you want the performance.

I’ve been asked to help configure a suitable laptop to run Autocad 2009 x64 for someone. I don’t use it myself, but I do know hardware and I have a few questions.
According to the official system requirements (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=11946449), a “workstation class” video card must be used. Does this mean only Quadro/FireGL cards will work and Geforce/Radeon cards will not work?
Also, for Vista or 3D work it states 1280×1024 as the minimum resolution – most laptops these days are widescreen, so would 1440×900 be suitable, or would we need to upgrade to 1920×1200 just to get the vertical resolution up to spec?
The requirements don’t go into a lot of detail on these issues, and the price difference can be huge depending on what is actually required, so if someone knows the answers to these questions I would appreciate it.

I am not sure of the exact error you are getting when you tried to run it so I don’t have any suggestions there but it could be related to your second uninstall issue. Also make sure to not use one of the registry cleaners as they can cause issues with software by being to aggressive and removing required components or links.
I would check your system and %temp% folder to make sure it is free of enough space. There is something in the OS telling AutoCAD you are low or out of disk space.

A workstation class graphics card like the Quadro will work best and is recommended for heavy AutoCAD use. for mostly 2D or light drawings most any mid level graphics card will work.
