Matt Murphy Clay Head Sculpture and Autodesk University 2008

Only seven more days until Autodesk University 2008!

The Matt Murphy Clay Head Sculpture was created by a contestant in the clay contest “Shape the future” at the MyFeedback booth last year using an AUGIWorld magazine picture of Matt Murphy as a reference. This green clay head has been held, touched, and for photos with people. It was even 3D scanned and printed as well as posed with well known entertainer Jay Leno.

So now the Matt Murphy Clay Head Sculpture has traveled around the world, attended many user groups worldwide, but it is looking pretty well traveled. It is made of soft clay and quickly becoming just a blob with rocks and other debris embedded in it in addition to the airline security screeners being tired of having to inspect it in my luggage .

It needs to be retired at Autodesk University 2008, but how?

Post your comment to this post on how we can retire the clay head in a legal and dignified manner at AU 2008.

Cheers,
Shaan

  1. I would have normally suggested a fitting end would be a spectacular explosion, but given recent events maybe that’s not such a great idea. So here are my real suggestions:
    1. Run a fun contest on your stand and give it to the winner.
    2. Just give it to Matt Murphy.

  2. Thanks Steve.
I was thinking of auctioning it off to the highest bidder and donating the funds to a local Las Vegas high school design/drafting class or something else that’s a good cause. The winner of the bid could do whatever with the clay head as long as it is respectful and legal.
I emailed Matt Murphy about his preference and he said to just give it to him.
Although I had a blast on Friday, I am not so keen on exploding anything as you suspected.
    Cheers,
    Shaan

  3. I think that Matt would like to have the head, while he hasn’t come out and said so, it would probably be a kind gesture.
I am also very glad you are o.k. and will make a relatively full recovery. My prayers go out to you and your family. Its a good thing it didn’t happen when you had a house full of people for Thanksgiving.

  4. I think you could make a plaster cast out of it to make a mold then make a plaster head from that mold.
It would travel easier. You could paint it the same green color. You could auction off the original.
    Just a thought.
