The following official 2008 AUGI AutoCAD Wish List was presented onstage by AUGI President Mark Kiker to Autodesk Vice President of the PSEB Platform Products Guri Stark at the AUGI Annual Meeting held at Autodesk University 2008.

- Solid Hatch Opacity Setting

- Import PDF into DWG or DXF (DONE and in the AutoCAD Subscription Bonus Pack 2)
- Lock Viewport scale While allowing panning

I’m very surprised to see the top item on the AUGI wish list, Convert PDF to DWG. This may be a cool feature to have, but I hope AutoDesk does not listen to this one. PDF is a great way to send your intellectual property to the outside world, without the concern that the data will be modified or re-used by the receiver.

We have no plans for a conversion of PDF to DWG at this time and that could cause some upset people using PDF as a means to lock a design file to prevent changes or liability.
What we have done for the AutoCAD Subscription Bonus Pack 2 with PDF underlay in speaking with customers gets beyond the request to convert by being able to reference and snap to the geometry within AutoCAD. This makes both sides happy, the PDF producers who supplied a PDF of the design to a sub contractor and the person needing to reference a PDF design file. Now there is the better way of DWF and DWF underlay, and for those that must work with PDF files an underlay method as well.

PDF to DWG, you are very short sighted if you believe that because Autodesk haven’t introduced the functionality then it doesn’t exist. There are many applications available that will, quite proficiently, revert a PDF (protected design??) into a DWG/DXF file format.

I am well are there are tools that can convert PDF to other formats like DXF and DWG. All I am saying is Autodesk does not see the need to provide a full conversion of a document widely used to protect the design to a DWG when we have now provided the ability to reference and snap to vector data in a PDF.
