If you are still using Windows Vista and plan to upgrade Autodesk software this year, you may want to consider upgrading your old Operating System. As of January 1st 2012 upgrades or new releases and services will no longer be supported on Windows Vista.

You may not have heard or even been aware of this new partnership with earthmine, or perhaps know what is earthmine. While visiting the Autodesk office in San Francisco recently I chatted with Justin Lokitz who is not only one of the best home brewers of beer, but also the Product Manager for AutoCAD Map 3D, AEC Infrastructure Modeling. Justin mentioned what earthmine was and the availability of the new product extension for AutoCAD Map 3D and then the earthmine CEO Anthony Fassero demonstrated the technology live.
In eight years of blogging I have received several questions on AutoCAD on this blog in comments and tried to answer each one. There is not real formal method to ask a question that is not related to a specific topic of a specific blog post and some have posted their questions to random other post comments. It is for this reason I am experimenting with a Open Mic post for AutoCAD & Autodesk Labs related questions or perhaps just a general comment about this blog, me, my hair, you looking for a job, or the upcoming Autodesk University.
The AutoCAD User Experience Team is hosting its annual AutoCAD Sneak Peek events in late September and early October. These are free half-day events held in a few different locations, and they’re a great way to get hands-on experience with in-progress features and give your suggestions and feedback directly to the team designing those features. This year the team is running two events that focus on different functionality.
To the delight of extreme pipers and plant design professionals around the world (including myself as a former process plant designer), the AutoCAD Plant 3D 2012, AutoCAD P&ID and Autodesk Plant Design Suite 2012 have just been announced.

123D is a new free 3D solid modeling software released today. 123D is intended for those wanting to make things commonly known as “Makers”. Makers of all ages will be able to create, visualize, and make their own creations.
This Shape Extraction for AutoCAD plugin on Autodesk Labs allows you to convert points from a point cloud acquired by a laser scan or photogrammetry and extract planar, spherical, and cylindrical shapes. I am currently working with a very large data set of the Seattle Gas Works provided by FARO, and I will be posting on this blog a detailed work flow example.
