These are the customers that help their fellow community members in the discussion forums and are experts at Autodesk products. I know their title is like a double pageant crown, or like being an expert PhD being both Expert & Elite but they earned that special title and the respect of their peers. The ~130 Expert Elite are nominated not by some shadow panel, but by their peers on the Autodesk Expert Elite Nomination Form.

Autodesk University 2013 Registration Opens Today

In only 82 days Autodesk University 2013 will be happening in Las Vegas, but you can register and select your classes starting today. Autodesk University is the premier Autodesk event and I would easily argue the best concentration of design and visualization professionals anywhere, at one time. This is an event that you will never forget what you learned, who you met, and what you saw. Don't leave what you learned in Vegas bring it back to the home office and share the knowledge and new contacts in your industry.

Only 157 Days

Yes just a friendly Friday reminder there are only 157 days until Autodesk University 2013. AU 2013 in 157 DaysMany of the instructors for all those awesome classes and labs were sent out notices yesterday. The job of selecting the class and instructors proposals is tough as there are so many submitted and only so many class openings unless we extended Autodesk University into a month long event. Now those selected instructors need to get busy writing and preparing the top notch classes we expect.

APPHACK Winner PhotoGeoDWG

AuAutodesk held a AppHack competition at Autodesk University to get Autodesk Developer Network members to write an app and demo it live at AU.

One of the winners apps just went live on the Autodesk Exchange. PhotoGeoDWG is a really creative app allowing you to add camera markers to the raster images in your drawing. No more asking yourself or others “where is this location” when in a drawing file or in the field.

Thank you Schuyler “Sledgehammer” St.Leger

Some may have attended or seen the fun Cage Match on “3D Printing is a Toy” with 12 year old prodigy Schuyler St.Leger last week. I even wore the Nacho Libra mask and cape in an unsuccessful attempt to intimidate Schuyler. This was really a no win debate for my position that 3D printing is a toy.
First: he is a cute and well spoken 12 year old kid that is passionate about 3D printing rating on enthusiasm meter of a scale 1-10 he pegs it at 99, and he really is smarter than most 30 year olds with a degree.
Second: 3D Printing is here to stay and will only get better and used in many more ways to benefit everyone.
My only point to be made during the entertaining fun event was that while I do fully believe in 3D printing, currently for most it is just printing small plastic toys with some limited exceptions.

Autodesk University 2012 is Over – See you at AU 2013

It was a great Autodesk University ending in what can only be described as an “EPIC” party that will go down as possibly the best I have attended in all 15 years of attending AU. I want to sincerely thank the Autodesk University Team for pulling off this excellent 20th year AU in grand style ending with the grand finale of all AU parties. The party’s food and drinks including Jell-O shots were excellent and the entertainment awesome with several large rooms each with different types of music and activities. I did finally get found by my crazy Australian & New Zealand friends who dragged me out until the wee hours of the morning. Don’t believe any of the stories you hear such as Irish clogging.
