A Saturday loop through Dufur, Tom McCall Preserve, Hood River, Solera Brewery in Parkdale, and dinner in Maupin. Wildflowers, an unexpectedly great organic market, and two very tired dogs.
The first day of 2026 did not start the way we expected. We were all sitting in the living room on January 1st. Calm. Quiet. Just another slow holiday morning. Then Boots lost it. He is almost fifteen now. A stubborn little doxie who has been through a lot and still thinks he is ten feet tall. One second he was fine. The next he was panicking, clawing at his mouth, eyes wide. This natural phenomenon occurs over mountains under specific conditions, glowing vividly at sunset. The night also saw an increase in trick-or-treaters, adding to the atmosphere of Halloween.
